A Gala Golden Anniversary Concert Honoring Founder and Artistic Director Joshua Jacobson @ Sanders Theatre

In celebration of Zamir’s golden anniversary, the chorale will honor its founder and artistic director Josh Jacobson and showcase the best of Zamir’s repertoire. The premiere performances of commissioned works from composers Jeremiah Klarman, Ken Lampl, Jonathan Leshnoff, Charles Osborne, Nick Page, and Benjie Ellen Schiller will dazzle and delight. Plus you will hear some of Zamir’s all-time favorite pieces from the past 50 years performed by the 60 voices of the award-winning chorale, assisted by dozens of Zamir alumni.

Clara Wieck Schumann was born 200 years ago on September 13, 1819, and didn’t take long to become one of the greats of her era. Newton Baroque will celebrate her 200th birthday with concerts in Newton and Boston featuring both her own brilliant works as well as music written for her by her husband Robert Schumann, and dear friend Johannes Brahms. Sopano, Nicole Estima and pianist, Andrus Madsen will team up to offer Lieder by Clara Schumann taking advantage of the beautiful 19th Century pianos at Second Church in Newton, and at First Church in Boston. Robert August will play fugues by Clara on the organ as well as organ works written for her by Robert, and Johannes Brahms.

Celebrate the grand opening of JCC Greater Boston’s new Winn Family & Wellness Center with a free day of fun for the whole family – open to all! Sunday, September 15 from 10am-12pm at the Leventhal-Sidman Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton. Move to the beat with a music fest including Vanessa Trien, play in the custom-designed Playspace, explore all new program spaces for kids, families and adults, create a community art project with artist Tova Speter, and try out a variety of children’s classes in music, movement, and more. Parents will have an opportunity to talk with parenting experts, get active with free adult fitness classes in our renovated studios, explore our state-of-the-art fitness center and enjoy coffee and snacks. Also available are free parent-child swim lessons (for ages 3 months-2 yrs) and evaluations (for 2+ yrs). Advanced registration for swim is required by email at lksainfo@jccgb.org.
