Newton Arts Calendar Guidelines:

PURPOSE

The Newton Arts Calendar is an interactive web-based site—totally free to users, organizations, and artists—that enables the Newton community to post, view, and search for events of cultural and artistic interest taking place in Newton.

Newton organizations may also list their arts and culture events that take place outside of Newton. Non-Newton organizations planning an arts and culture event within Newton city limits may list that event; their listings for arts and culture events outside Newton will not be accepted.

The Newton Arts Calendar may be used to promote artistic and cultural events in Newton open to the general public that are sponsored by non-profit cultural and arts organizations, non-profit civic, social, charitable, fraternal or educational organizations, or informal groups of individuals producing a cultural or artistic event. Newton organizations planning events in other cities may list those events as well.

The Newton Arts Calendar may not be used to promote political or commercial events.

GUIDELINES:

Listings will be limited to those abiding by the following:

  • Only one-time or special arts and culture events will be listed on the calendar; regularly scheduled activities such as classes, meetings or rehearsals will not be included. Events of listing organizations/individuals will be linked to their website for all ticket sales.
  • All events must be open to the general public, not just to organization members.
  • Listings for solicitations will not be accepted.
  • Exceptions to these Guidelines may be made at the discretion of the Newton Department of Arts and Culture.
  • Submissions must be made online and filled out entirely, including description and contact information. Forms with blank entry fields or no description may not be accepted for listing.

LISTING REVIEW AND PUBLISHING:

  • Prior to posting, all submitted events will be reviewed by the Newton Department of Arts and Culture.
  • The Newton Department of Arts and Culture. reserves the right to edit event information for length, spelling, language and clarity.
  • The Newton Department of Arts and Culture reserves the right to limit the number of listings from any one organization and to reject or remove any posting deemed to be offensive, inappropriate, or not in the public’s interest or in conflict with this policy or mission of the Newton Department of Arts and Culture or the City of Newton.
  • The Newton Department of Arts and Culture will not approve posts that provide links to:
    • Sites that are not generally consistent with the above-stated criteria or the mission of the Newton Department of Arts and Culture.
    • Candidate sites or sites advocating a position on ballot issues.
    • Political organizations or Political Action Committees.
    • Sites advocating for or containing hate speech, discrimination, harassment, or illegal activity.
    • Sites that are or contain content that is obscene as defined by M.G.L. c. 272, § 31.
    • Sites containing illegal materials, including, but not limited to, sites containing materials that violate federal copyright and trademark or intellectual property laws.

It should be noted that this is not a complete list of sites to which the Newton Department of Arts and Culture will not provide links, and the Newton Department of Arts and Culture reserves the right to amend this policy at any time.

CALENDAR STYLE:

In submitting listings to the Calendar, please follow these simple Guidelines to ensure sufficient detail and consistency of style through the site:

    • Event Title: Use initial caps and lower case throughout.
    • Location: Include the address, building name and the room number
    • Time: List the specific time of the event
    • Event Contact: Include a contact person’s name, phone and email
    • Website: List website where more details related to this event are available
  • Description/Details: Limit information in this box to no more than two or three sentences.
  • Photos: Please post only photos related to this event. The Newton Department of Arts and Culture reserves the right to refuse postings of any photos.
